The Aces are an American alternative/indie pop band from Utah. Even though they are all girl band, the band members stated that they have a desire to break the idea of “girl band” genre, because they would like to be known for their music, rather than their gender.
The band members and sisters Alisa Ramirez (drums) and Cristal Ramirez (lead vocals and guitars) started making music in a music-loving household while they were 8 years old. Later, Ramirez sisters asked their friend Mckenna Petty (bassist) to join them and they formed Blue Aces (later the Aces). In 2008 the band was officially formed when Katie Henderson, Petty’s friend joined them.
Later in 2016, they changed their name to The Aces and released their debut EP — I Don’t Like Being Honest. Their debut single Stuck reached No. 38 on the Billboard Alternative Charts.
The Aces released their first album My Heart Felt Volcanic with their lead single Volcanic Love in 2018. Later, the band named their first headlining tour Waiting for You, after one of their songs in the album.
In 2020, the band released their second album Under My Influence. The album contains song such as Daydream, Lost Angeles, New Emotion and Kelly.
The band’s fourth single from their album Under My Influence — Kelly is an explicitly queer and first of the band’s songs to use gendered pronouns. Cristal and Alisa Ramirez commented that the band, in which three of four members are queer, had not been consciously avoiding gendered pronouns.
