1. Veni Vidi Vici (Rebel Heart – 2015)
Veni Vidi Vici is a song from Madonna’s thirteenth studio album Rebel Heart, featuring American rapper Nas. The song title means “I came, I saw, I conquered” in Latin and it is a phrase used by Julius Ceasar after his swift victory against King Pharneces II of Pontus. Also during two verses, Madonna references to her iconic tracks such as Ray of Light, Holiday, Like A Prayer, Into the Groove, Like A Virgin and more. Nas also talks about his own life in a verse.
2. Love Profusion (American Life – 2003)
Love Profusion is a song from Madonna’s ninth studio album American Life. Inthis song and throughout the album, Madonna had a negative tone because she wanted to be sarcastic about people’s assumptions about her and emphasize her knowledge of romantic love.
3. Hollywood (American Life – 2003)
Hollywood is a Madonna song with bouncy folk-rock tune and a clubby disco beat. While Madonna was working on her ninth studio album, the cultural mood of the US was bleak and of paranoia because of the September 11 attacks. So, Madonna and American Life’s producer used the confusion, disorientation and the anger of this era in the songs, including this one.
4. HeartBreakCity (Rebel Heart – 2015)
HeartBreakCity is a piano ballad from Madonna’s thirteenth studio album Rebel Heart, talking about lost love. Madonna sings in deeper vocal register, inspired by baroque pop and it also contains synths, banjo sounds and hollow drums.
5. I’m A Sinner (MDNA – 2012)
I’m a Sinner is a gospel-like techno song with bouncing drum beats and swinging guitar riffs. In the lyrics, Madonna namechecks Jesus Christ as well as various saints.
