With the official announcement of the first participant of Eurovision 2022, The Eurovision period has officially started today.
After 2 years of consecutive participations from the Flemish broadcaster VRT, due to the cancellation of ESC 2020, the upcoming contest was the French broadcaster RTBF’s turn. And this year, RTBF has decided to send the winner of The Voice Belgique 2021, Jérémie Makiese, to Italy!
Who is Jérémie Makiese?
Jérémie was born to Congolese parents in Antwerp, Belgium. Throughout his earlier life, he moved a lot with his family, and ended up in Uccle, which is a bilingual municipality in the capital of Brussels. As a result of living in a bilingual town, and the combination of his birthplace and his origin, he can speak both Dutch and French.
Jérémie grew up with two huge passions; football and music. As for football, he currently plays in Excelsior Virton in D1B. For the second passion, our main focus, he had started to sing in a church choir at a young age and he took singing lessons at school.
On 12 January 2021, Jérémie auditioned for The Voice Belgique, performing ‘Jealous’ by Labrinth. In the Blinds, he managed to have all the jury turning for him in only 20 seconds, with only one sentence.
In his way to the grand final, he performed incredible covers of Lauren Digle’s “You Say”, James Arthur’s “You’re Nobody ’til Somebody Loves You”, Christophe Maé’s “Ça fait mal”, Christina Aguilera’s “Say Something” and Bruno Mars’ “Leave the Door Open”.
In the grand final, he performed three songs: “Earth Song”, “Revival” (with his coach Beverly Jo Scott) and “Jealous”.
After listening to his covers and exploring his style, personally, I am hopeful to see a great performance from him. He has a powerful voice and with the opportunities that RTBF will give to him, he has a significant potential to shine on the stage.
