The 10 Best Songs of Romania at Eurovision Song Contest

Since its debut in 1994, Romania has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 20 times, and has finished in the top ten six times. Lumini Anghel and Sistem obtained their best performance in 2005, and Paula Seling and Ovi in 2010, both of whom finished in the third position.

Let’s look at the best 10 songs of Romania at Eurovision in my opinion.

* You can reach songs’ spotify links by clicking songs’s name.

* ”Alcohol You” isn’t included in this list due not to have a live performance.

10. Voltaj – De La Capat/ All Over Again (2015)

Firstly, Romanian sounds so good in this song. Moreover, the melody and lyrics are good too but the stage is weaker than other things. I think it deserved to be 15th.

9. Monica Anghel şi Marcel Pavel – Tell me Why (2002)

This song was the most successful song for Romania in Eurovision until that year. It was a beautiful duet, especially chorus is impressive and the song is sufficiently good. They deserved this success.

8. Ester Peony – On A Sunday (2019)

Despite her strong voice and presence in the stage, Ester Peony could not qualify to the Grand Final and finished 13th in the Semi-Final. Her song had a powerful meaning and her staging was eery, but the lighting and the dancers on the stage did not help it at all to create a fully-eery staging which would reflect the lyrics.

7. Mihai Traistariu – Tornero (2006)

After third place in 2005, Romania participated in Eurovision another strong and arty song. And they got another successful result. The song is catchy and Mihai’s vocal is strong such as a stage. He placed 4th in that year and absolutely deserved it.

6. Malina Olinescu – Eu Cred (1998)

This song has emotional music and should have impressed audiences. Malina has a good voice and she deserved better than 22nd place.

5. Paula Seling & OVI – Miracle (2014)

As everybody knows, this song wasn’t as good as ”Playing With Fire’ but this song is good too. Paula & OVI look very good on the stage and they are suitable for Eurovision. I think Miracle didn’t do as well as ”Playing With Fire” because this song hasn’t an extra thing on the stage.

4. Mandinga – Zaleilah (2012)

This song is a special song for me because it is the last song I’ve sent a vote in Eurovision. Zaleilah is a very funny and colourful song in that year. The chorus is so catchy and when it is listened to the first time, everybody wants to listen again. Finally, this song merited a better place in the grand final.

3. Elena – The Balkan Girls (2009)

This song is another energetic song of Romania and the most beautiful energetic one in my opinion. Melody, choreography, Elena and Elena’s vocal -all of them- are harmonious and pretty good. Although 2009 was a hard year, this song should have got a better place than 19th.

2. Luminita Anghel & Sistem – Let Me Try  (2005)

Romania, which started to participate in the competition in 1993, achieved its best success with this song in 2005, ranking 3rd. Luminita has a very strong vocal and the stage was so powerful. Also, different instruments were used successfully. On the other hand, I don’t like Luminita’s costume but it is not important much. She absolutely deserved 3rd place.

1. Paula Seling & Ovi – Playing With Fire (2010)

”Playing With Fire” is a unique song in Eurovision, and hey were one of the favourites that year. The piano was used very impressive and the vocals are very strong – especially Paula’s one-. All part of the song is awesome. With the beautiful stage, they reached Romania’s best result again in Eurovision.
