It is almost time for the Grand Finale of Swedish National Selection Melodifestivalen 2021. Tomorrow night, we will finally see who will win Melodifestivalen and get the chance to represent Sweden in Eurovision Song Contest. However, we will not list the winners on this article, instead we will be talking about the eliminated songs of Melodifestivalen. Let’s take a look at the best songs of “the worst”!
- You can click on the song titles to listen them on Spotify.
10. Molly Pettersson Hammar – I’ll Be Fine
Even though her song was catchy and her voice was strong, Molly Hammar placed 6th in her semi-final with the song “I’ll Be Fine” and as a results, was eliminated.
9. Klara Hammarström – Nobody
Klara Hammarström participated in Melodifestivalen 2015 with her song “Nobody”, but unfortunately, she was eliminated. Now, she will sing her song “Beat of Broken Hearts” in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2021, after qualifying from second chance round.
8. Nathalie Brydolf – Fingerprints
Even though her voice was strong and her song was emotional enough, Nathalie Brydolf placed 7th in her semi-final with the song “Fingerprints” and was eliminated.
7. Kamferdrops – Solen lever kvar hos dig
Norwegian singer Kamferdrops competed in Melodifestivalen 2018 with her song “Solen lever kvar hos dig” but could not qualify. The song title means “the sun is still alive with you”. Her voice and staging was dream-y and she wore a mask on stage as usual.
6. Margaret – Tempo
Polish singer Margaret participated in Melodifestivalen 2018 with her song “In My Cabana” and placed 7th in the Grand Final. However, her Melodifestivalen 2019 entry “Tempo” could not succeed as her previous entry and placed 5th in its semi-final.
5. Julia Alfrida – Rich
Rich is a song by Swedish singer-songwriter Julia Alfrida that competed Melodifestivalen 2021. Even though her song and performance was pretty good, she was eliminated in her semi-final.
We could be rich like that
They can take our money
But never steal our heart, no, no
‘Cause we’re rich like that
4. Emmi Christensson – Icarus
Emmi Christensson participated in Melodifestivalen 2018 with her power ballad song Icarus, but she placed 6th and was eliminated.
3. Pagan Fury – Stormbringer
Stormbringer is a rock/folk metal song from the Swedish band Pagan Fury. They sang about Norse mythology and the lead vocalist was accompanied by 4 dancers on the stage. Even though their performance was on point, they could not quailify.
There’s a bad moon on the rise
I will fight for you
I’ll go through fire and ice
There’s nothing I won’t do
And the winds will paint the sky
Hear them call my name
2. Oscar Enestad – I Love It
Elimination of this Melodifestivalen entry might be the biggest crime ever in the near-history of the contest. I Love It is a catchy song with bold lyrics, and that is possibly the reason why it was eliminated. Oscar made a daring outcry by expressing his feelings towards his 28 year older girlfriend, but their relationship was talked a lot and got ahead of the entry. However, we should not judge and love “I Love It“.
My parents don’t like it
But don’t care, it’s exciting
It’s different, I’d miss it
Without you, I ain’t living
‘Cause we one in a billion
I love, I love, I love it
1. Dotter – Cry
Despite being a fan favourite, Cry placed 6 in its semi-final and as a result was eliminated. Later in 2020, Dotter participated this time with her song “Bulletproof” which was again a fan favourite, but she was placed second with just one point behind the winner. Now, she is participating once more with her song “Little Tot”. We will see if she will manage to win and get the chance to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
